COVID-19 in California in 2021

Since the Coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, California has been hit by COVID-19 much more than other states. Although we truly live in a paradise and are surrounded by amazing people, it is difficult to be in California during a global disease.

We must all do our part to restore our state and its individuals to health. Read on to keep track of the most recent updates on COVID-19, taken from our local and state authorities.

Staying Home in California

One of the main updates in our sunny state is that California residents are still ordered to stay home and quarantine unless conducting essential duties such as: working, shopping for groceries, and other authorized errands. This is done to reduce the spread of the virus and to protect our most vulnerable populations from being infected by asymptomatic individuals.

Vaccine Updates in California

25,188,138 Californians have been vaccinated. According to the Los Angeles Times, 52% of Californians have been partially vaccinated against COVID-19, of which 30% have been fully vaccinated. If you are unsure about how the COVID-19 vaccine works, you can read all about it here. The bottom line is that most individuals will require 2 doses of the vaccine, which are usually given within a span of a month.

The fact that over half of our population is partially vaccinated against the disease is great news and is a step in the right direction to overcome this challenge together.  Remember that even if you have been fully vaccinated, you should still respect the Coronavirus safety guidelines put out by the CDC, such as social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and the use of face masks. This is done to reduce any risk of infection. Although the vaccine is safe and effective, it is also new, and Coronavirus keeps surprising us with different strains of the virus.

COVID-19 Cases in California

As of today, California has 3,614,112 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 59,690 deaths. On April 17, there were 2,763 new cases. Although the numbers are beginning to decrease, we must keep our guard up and not rebound.

COVID-19 Tests in California

A total of 57,481,126 have been performed in California, and 252,314 of those tests happened today. The overall test positivity is 1.6%, which is generally decreasing.

These are all good news, and our state is heading in the right direction. Remember that testing is one of the main ways to know whether or not you carry the virus, thus it is crucial in stopping and slowing down the spread.
